After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll start visiting the major sights of the capital, including Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. En route to Laos’ national icon, the precious and sacred That Luang Stupa, you’ll have the opportunity to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triomphe. You’ll thencall in Talat Sao market where you can do some shopping.

In the afternoon, you’ll board the flight to Xieng Khoang. On arrival, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel for your overnight accommodation.

After breakfast, you’ll take a short trek to explore the mysterious Plain of Jars and the surrounding area. The jars are believed to be around 2,000 years old, although there is little concrete evidence to date them accurately. Archaeologists still struggle to confirm their specific purpose—were they used as funerary urns or to store rice wine? The mystery remains unsolved. You’ll observe local village life, visit a small monastery in Ban Xiengdi, and pass areas that were significant battlefields during the American War.

You’ll then continue to Muang Khoun, the one place in the old provincial capital that was not destroyed by American bombings. You’ll spend the night in Xieng Khoang.

Following breakfast, you’ll drive to Luang Prabang, stopping for lunch at Sala Phoukhou along the way. After lunch, continue your journey on Road 13, taking in the beautiful landscape. Upon arrival, you’ll climb Phousi Hill for a panoramic view of Luang Prabang. In the evening, explore the vibrant night market at your own pace. You’ll spend the night in Luang Prabang.

This morning, you’ll continue exploring Luang Prabang, starting with its oldest temples, Wat Sene and Wat Xieng Thong. Wat Sene, or “Temple of 100,000 Treasures,” is one of Luang Prabang’s most beautiful temples, known for its restored deep ochre color, flamboyantly glittering with gold. Wat Xieng Thong, a magnificent piece of architecture, sits at the meeting point of the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers. The temple structures are adorned with gilded stuccoes and intricate doorways, and the main sim features a stunning ‘Tree of Life’ mosaic on the outer wall.

You’ll then board a traditional riverboat for a trip upstream on the Mekong River to visit the famous Pak Ou Caves, which house thousands of Buddha statues. Next, you’ll visit Ban Xang Hai, a village renowned for distilling traditional rice alcohol. The village was once famous for its large jars, crafted there for over 2,000 years. Afterward, you’ll walk around Ban Pak Ou, a small Laotian fishing village along the Mekong River, and continue to Ban Muang Keo, where you’ll observe the production of colorful fabrics woven on simple looms. You’ll return to Luang Prabang by boat and spend the night there.

After breakfast, you’ll visit the National Museum, once the royal palace. Inside, you’ll find a charming collection of the royal family’s personal artifacts, including photos, musical instruments, and gifts from foreign dignitaries. You’ll also explore the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun, the shrine of Wat Aham, and Wat Mai, with its striking five-tiered roof.

Afterward, you’ll leave the city for a one-hour drive to Kuang Si Waterfall. The waterfalls cascade over multi-tiered limestone formations into cool, clear pools, perfect for swimming and relaxing. The water here has a beautiful blue-green tint due to the high mineral content. You can climb the stairs and enjoy breathtaking views from various high points on the way to the top! You’ll return to Luang Prabang by late afternoon and visit Ban Xangkhong, a village famous for silk weaving and traditional Saa paper making. You’ll spend the night in Luang Prabang.
