HANOI SOFITEL MOTROPOLE HOTEL
Hanoi Sofitel Metropole Hotel The Luxury Hotel In Hanoi
The Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the city centre about a five-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake. It’s a medium-rise colonial style building with deep historical connections. The Metropole has 364 rooms and suites, with luxury Prestige Suites and three top-of-the-range Legendary Suites.
Accommodation is in two wings. The original Metropole, now the Historical Metropole Wing, has many period features in its rooms and public areas. The neo-classical Opera Wing opened some years ago – the decor is modern and amenities are state-of-the-art, but the rooms lack the period character of the original building.
The Sofitel Metropole, over its long and turbulent past, has been the chosen accommodation of kings, presidents, film stars and celebrities from all over the world. It now has a number of high end retail outlets at street level, including Louis Vuitton and Hermès. It features an interior courtyard garden surrounding the pool, and is close to an attractive park area.
Directly underneath the poolside Bamboo Bar is a recently re-discovered bomb shelter, now open as a memorial to the war. Metropole guests are invited to the “Path of History” programme, a guided introduction to the hotel’s storied history, culminating in a visit to the bomb shelter itself.
In recent years, Hanoi has gained numerous new five star hotels with modern facilities. By comparison with its newer neighbors, the Metropole had a somewhat staid and outdated image. However, a radical refurbishing programme breathed new life into Hanoi’s most famous hotel. Its classic rooms have been transformed and, in a single bound, the Metropole has leapfrogged into pole position well ahead of its competitors.
The ‘new’ rooms are a delight. The stuffy fin de siècle decor has been replaced by a clever mixture of hi-tech and traditional features with a stronger focus on Vietnamese elements. The Grand Luxury rooms and all suites offer full Club Metropole privileges.
The Metropole has successfully melded full modern amenities into its classic historical facility. All rooms have broadband Internet and public areas have wifi. The hotel’s policy recognises concern about passive smoking by making the two lower floors non-smoking, leaving only the top floor for tobacco addicts.
Fortunately, the historic traditions of the Metropole have escaped largely unscathed. The hotel’s restaurants – French, Vietnamese and Italian – offer some of the finest cuisine in Vietnam. The Head Chef comes to Hanoi from Paris via Singapore, and is aiming high for the future of Le Beaulieu, billed as Vietnam’s oldest continuously operating restaurant. The Metropole’s Italian chef was recently awarded the prestigious Certified Master Chef of Italian Cuisine degree, recognizing his commitment to his art.
The Sofitel Metropole is an award-winning five star hotel with all the services and amenities you can imagine. The completion of extensive renovations has only added to its lustre. Among Hanoi’s luxury hotels, the Metropole maintains very competitive rates and continues to live up to its legendary moniker.
The Metropole has for over a century welcomed celebrated authors, actors, ambassadors and heads of state. Along with the W. Somerset Maugham and Charlie Chaplin suites, the Graham Greene Suite is a testament to the rich history of the Metropole, with its French classical architecture, cool wooden floors and fin de siècle décor.
Graham Greene Suite
Located on the second floor of the historic Metropole wing, the Graham Greene Suite is decorated in a classical French style with a touch of Indochina ambience. Elegant wood lamps, colonial armoires, antique ceiling fans and beautiful hand-made artworks, all work together to produce a luxurious and stately atmosphere – one fit for a president, a grand artist or a royal family member. You will enjoy a large entrance, a dining area with a conference table to seat six, two bedrooms (one with a king size bed, one with a double bed), a washroom and a charming bathroom with large pedestal sink and separate standing shower. Outside the window are scenic views of Paul Bert Park, dating back to 1900s and the beautiful European-style hundred-year-old Government Guesthouse.
Charlie Chaplin Suite
Located on the third floor of the historic Metropole wing, the Charlie Chaplin Suite is a romantic haven to spend cherished moments and create memories with that special someone. An elegant living room with antique style furniture evokes the feeling of a bygone era. A luxurious sofa invites you to relax and large louver windows looking onto the peaceful French quarter add to the suites unique appeal. Additionally, a collection of Chaplin portraits hang from the wall and a series of Chaplin’s movies are provided to surround you with the memories of this well-known artist. When you are ready to turn in for the day, our warm and comfortable queen-size bed will lull you to sleep. And, a recently restored, marble-appointed bathroom offers additional luxury.
Somerset Maugham Suite
